Those who work in education strive to create more inclusive environments school but are often stymied their efforts by challenges coming from many and varied directions. Politicians, for example, exhort us be conditions that encourage separation exclusion, education's history special means the default response of system around is diagnose, treat manage separately. That legacy continues have its effects. Looking both at management ‘special needs’ continuing rise numbers marginalised, separated excluded youngsters, we suggest some fundamental shifts necessary way think about research into difficulty if move beyond Groundhog Day.
